Family Mediation
If you’re keen to find an experienced family mediation service based in East Sussex and Kent, you are in the right place.
Here at Kay & Pascoe, a specialist family law firm, we can provide you with an affordable and effective way to deal with the issues that arise on separation.
Our Family Mediation team, based in Heathfield and Crowborough, is trained to help you resolve disputes. We can help you with arrangements for the children, as well as the complex issues that can arise with regard to financial matters.
If divorce or a civil partnership dissolution are inevitable, the Mediator within family mediation can help by giving you practical information about how best to deal with these proceedings, in order to obtain the best outcome for your family.
The main benefits of family mediation are:
- The process helps you put the needs of any children first
- It helps you to keep costs to a minimum
- It enables you to have more control of your future – rather than being told what to do by a District Judge, which is often the case in the traditional court-based process.
- Family Mediation is a flexible process; allowing for different time frames, in person or online meetings and a range of issues to be considered
- It is private
How do you find out if Family Mediation is right for you?
If you decide that Family Mediation is for you, then one of our Mediators from our Heathfield or Crowborough offices in East Sussex, will go through the following process with you:
- Arrange to meet with both spouses or partners separately before the mediation, in order to identify the issues that require mediating and will establish whether you are both ready to mediate.
- Undertake the mediation assessment meeting, which should take no longer than 30 minutes. The mediator can address any concerns or queries that you have concerning family mediation during this meeting.
- If you decide that family mediation is not for you, then the mediator will give you an outline of other processes that may assist, including arbitration and court proceedings. The mediator will then sign a certificate for you that will be required by the court if you decide to make an application. There is a £90 fee for this certificate.
We have a number of experienced and qualified family mediators working across our offices in East Sussex, who can assist clients across England and Wales.
“Not a negative word to say about Kay and Pascoe. In particular Tara, who has helped us beyond expectations throughout difficult and lengthy family matters. She has fantastic knowledge and compassion, nothing ever seems too much and she has gone above and beyond for us. “

How does Family Mediation work?
The whole family mediation process is confidential.
Both parties are involved in discussions throughout and the timescale and outcome are governed by your individual requirements.
The family mediator is completely impartial and will not take sides.
The mediator cannot provide either person in family mediation with legal advice. It may, therefore, be necessary for you to see a family law solicitor between mediation sessions, or at the end of the process, in order that any agreement can be turned into a legally binding document which may then be implemented.
