Collaborative Law
If you are looking for a facilitated and amicable divorce, our team of specialist collaborative lawyers in East Sussex and Kent can help.
What is Collaborative Law?
Collaborative Law is a process designed to identify and resolve any family issues to assist in achieving an amicable divorce outside of the court process.
This is done via a series of round table meetings at which agreement is reached by talking directly with your spouse or partner.
These meetings are carefully managed to ensure everyone is fully aware of what will happen and information is supplied in advance as far as possible.
Both of you are supported in this process by your respective solicitors before, during and after meetings, so that amicable divorce solutions can be found in an open and non-confrontational way.
What are the Benefits of Collaborative Law?
- The Collaborative Law process puts any children you may have at the heart of all decision making, aiding an amicable divorce
- You are not limited by what the court can or cannot do
- It is a flexible process giving you control over the venue, timings and the pace at which the process moves
- It is a private process
- As a resolution is reached by agreement, and not imposed upon you, it is more likely to be stuck to
- Collaborative Law aids an amicable divorce because, while it might be challenging, it can help you work together for the benefit of the children and future wider family relationships
- All legal advice is given during the meetings – so is heard by both of you and explained to both of you at the same time
- You retain your own solicitor, so your interests are fully represented while aiming for an amicable divorce
- Third parties including accountants, financial advisers, family consultants and counsellors can be brought in as and when needed.
“The Kay & Pascoe team has looked after me so well, family law is never going to be happy, but you have made it as painless as possible for me.”

Who would help with my amicable divorce process?
Not all Family Lawyers are Collaborative Lawyers. Specific training has to be undertaken to become a Collaborative Lawyer that can advise on amicable divorce settlements.
Here at Kay & Pascoe LLP, Fiona and Tara are both qualified collaborative lawyers and work with many clients aiming for an amicable divorce.
Collaborative Law can be face to face or via a video platform, so we are happy to assist from our offices in Heathfield and Crowborough in East Sussex (just a short journey from Tunbridge Wells in Kent), or wherever you are in England and Wales.
If you have any queries about using collaborative law for achieving an amicable divorce, please call and book a fixed fee meeting with either Fiona or Tara.
They will be able to advise you whether the Collaborative Law and amicable divorce process is right for you, or if one of our other solutions may be an option. Find out more about our approach.
